Tamarac Alum Comes Home for Touching 9/11 Tribute

Conor Nee, the nephew and godson of FDNY firefighter George Cain, was just 5 years old and a kindergartener at Tamarac Elementary School when his uncle, known as “Georgie,” tragically lost his life on Sept. 11, 2001.

A few years later, Conor wrote the book “American Hero” in honor of his uncle, who served with the FDNY's Ladder 7. The book was later honored by being placed in Tamarac Elementary School’s “Vault” time capsule.

Conor continues to share his uncle’s story, traveling with his mother and daughter, who coincidentally shares the same birthday as her great-uncle Georgie.

His story reminds us that while we remember those we lost, their stories and legacies continue to live on.
